Old but true sayings.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, live today.

It is ironic how people exchange their health for wealth only to find that they have to give it all away in the end to gain back their health. Ultimate stupidity.

Happiness and joy is a product of love and contentment.

Money is still the root of all evil no matter how we try to hide it.

Even if we have everything in the world, we would still only have 24 hours to live each day.

No matter how wealthy a man is, he can only eat how much his stomach allows him to and occupy no more than the space of his body when he sleeps.

The last Seal.

Having seen the fragility of mankind from natural disasters to pandenmic outbreaks and wars. I cannot help but feel the helplessness and sadness at how our world is turning out. How then shall we live? Shall we continue to make plans for prosperity for the next 30-40 years into the digital age? Sadly from the looks of things, I don't even think earth has another 20 years to endure.

Well I may sound like a doomsday soothsayer but the fact remains that when mankind crossed over to the 21st century, we have been witnessing waves after waves of crisis and worsening as each comes after the other. Perhaps these are indeed warning signs of the times to come recorded in the book of Revelations in the Holy Bible. The clock of destruction being set in motion can no longer be stopped and every second is ticking away. So the question is no longer how much money we can make or how high we can scale the corporate ladder but what really matters in life when the end draws near?

Sadly, many of us live our life like either we are immortals or there is no tomorrow. The ignorant squandered their life away chasing after the wind. What is money worth really? What is social status worth really? But one may argue that without these, one could never go far in today's fast changing society where shallow people judge each other by their education, bank accounts, looks and the lists goes on.

Time and time again, we have witnessed and hear of so many wealthy successful men who live a life of regret at the end of their journey. King Solomon, the world's richest man throughout history, at the height of his immeasurable wealth, came to the conclusion that all his posessions are nothing but vanities of men. What then is the value and true worth of a big house or a big car where it is often empty? What is the value of wealth?

The tug-of-war therefore is whether we should continue living life pursuing the things of the world OR things with a higher and more noble calling. I don't have the answers but I know I have made my choice. My success and greatest achievement in life is my marriage and family. My greatest wealth is my wife and my children.

The pendulum swings.

It is amazing how market sediments changes so quickly. The bull is suddenly knocked over by the bear. For one moment when things are looking up after almost half a decade of decline, the market tumbles again.

I could still remember clearly that I correctly predicted the windfall of 97 as well as the dotcom bubble burst in 2000. Following that was a long road to recovery in the stock market. Sure there are money to be made in every turn depending on how you play the game, but the fact of the matter remains that everyone got burn in one way or the other.

Just barely a year ago, I picked up the scent of a market downfall again and sure enough, the sub prime crisis hit the US market really hard. Pulling back all momentary gains from the previous years of rallies and confidence. Now the market is waiting once more for a catalyst. With the rise of the dotcom era gone, investors are looking at the two possible players, China and India. But whether they are another bubble waiting to burst is anybody's guess. But my take is this two chess piece are just tips of the icebergs.

The world is coming to an end. The signs are so bloody obvious around us. So my advice, invest your time and resources wisely. It will come a time when even money can't buy you anything.

For those who have eyes, let them see. Those who have ears, let them hear.

Watch Your Back! Back Pains.

Are you having problem walking or standing for more than 15-30 minutes? When you sit down, does your back hurts after a while? When you lay down in bed at the end of the day to sleep, does your back feels like it is going to break? Mine does...for the last 13 years.

It all started way back during my SAF days. During one of the basic military trainings, I injured my back without knowing after carrying this guy who was twice my size. My then BMT officer forced me to carry this guy to run across the field even after I notified him of the situation.

So while the rest of the platoon ran with their buddies on their backs, I was stumbling with every step I took. My injuries went unreported because of his cowardly and irresponsibly great leadership. If I could turn back the clock, I swear I would have taken that bastard up in court for ill treatment. While he could be somewhere enjoying life now, I am paying dearly with mine.

Back to the topic of back pain. In the centre of our back is where the spine is. It is the most important skeletal structure in our body besides our skull. The spine consists of :

  • 24 bones(vertebrae) with
  • shock absorbing discs(intervertebral discs) in between;
  • ligaments holding the vertebrae together;
  • tendons connecting the muscles to the vertebrae;
  • spinal cord carrying the nerves to the rest of the body;
  • nerves and muscles.
Any form of damage or impact to it will cause severe consequences to our health. Treatments and drugs are administered to aid in the process of healing but in some cases like mine, the injuries are chronical and it will take a long time to heal.

Apart from my chronic back sprain, I also have chronic sprain in both my ankles caused by the intensive military drills and long runs. Unfortunately because of this two injuries, I have also contacted mild arthirits in both my knees. Now my hip joints are feeling the numbness as well. Oh man...I am like done for at such a young age.

I have undergone many X-rays, a couple of MRIs...and a bone scan to find the root cause of my ailments. I have also tried physiotherapy, many types of painkillers and supplements like glucosamine products. But none of these seem to help. The other options left are either to go for surgery or radio frequency therapy which again will burn another hole in my wallet.

So guys, please watch your backs. Workout regularly but not over exerting yourself. Do lots of stretchings and warm-ups in the morning. Take your calciums and vitamins. Try to relax and sleep well. And for those who are over-weight...don't laugh...you know who you are, please watch your diet. Now in Singapore, we have to work our ass off and try to live till we turn 85 before we can draw out anything from our CPF.

The World In Crisis.

In the last decade, we have seen how the weather has changed for the worst due to the effects of global warming. Reports of rampant earthquakes, huge hurricanes, flash floods, prolonged drought and record volcano eruptions. Some of these hit record levels in the history books. The bad news is it's not going to stop here, it's only going to get worst.

So the big question is, how long more does humanity have before the end comes. When all that we are doing now counts for nothing when the Almighty decides to turn on the switch for world destruction like the book of Revelations found in the Holy Bible.

Less we all forgot, starting with the Asia Tsunami in 2004, Indonesia, India and Thailand have a large number of deaths and casaulties. From there on, many other disasters struck all over the world. Diseases like aids and bird flu are spreading without boundaries. Terrorism remains at large and every nation is vulnerable.

So what should we do then? Should we give up everything? Should we make a dash for last minute shopping? Should we make as much money as we can and bail out? For me, I just want to be with my loved ones as much as I can. For we are not immortals and our lives can be taken away in an instant.

The world tells us to be rich and successful, many live like they will live forever, they are always busy setting new career heights, building greater wealth and gaining social recognitions. However, many of us do not know what we are really missing out in life. One day when everything is suddenly gone, it will be too late.

The end has began. Start living, start loving. Start to treasure what you already have and to those who love you, love them back. Time is a commodity that money cannot buy, use it well.
